Department of Informational Resources Co-op Program

Austin Community College is partnering with The Department of Informational Resources to assist local state agencies in hiring and funding co-op positions for ACC students in Computer Science, Business, Government, Technical Communication Studies. Co-op positions are short-term (typically 6-12 months) contract positions.

Students within these program areas can be hired as contract employees by state agencies (and other contracting government agencies) ACC is the employer of record for these hourly employees, then bills the agencies to cover the wages. The agencies use contractor budgets rather than personnel FTE budgets, so there are fewer restrictions on hiring, and the HR turnaround is much shorter.

Dr. Sam Greer, Director of Cooperative Education and Internships, will function as the principal for supervision/ACC HR purposes. He is the designated single point of contact for all state agencies seeking ACC co-op employees and interns.

Hiring Process: Agency manager sends job posting to OCEI at [email protected].
OCEI forwards job posting (without agency contact information) to relevant departments and CE program managers.
Departments and programs promote postings to their eligible students.

  • To be eligible to apply for DIR contract positions, students must have completed a sufficient amount of the subject matter in their field of study to effectively perform the duties of the agency job. It is the responsibility of the department chairs (or their designees) and the program managers to assure that their applicants will be able to perform the requested duties.
Eligible students obtain departmental approval via Electronic form: (ACC/DIR) Departmental/Program Application Approval form.
Student is provided with agency name and contact information to apply directly to the agency with a cc to OCEI at [email protected].
The contracting agency manager will function as the on-site supervisor/ project manager.
